To celebrate the Queen's Jubilee year we established a new garden area for families to enjoy and explore in an area of previously unused land in the Elgar Birthplace Museum grounds.

The Cottage

On 2 June 1857 Edward Elgar was born in the small 19th century cottage now known as the Birthplace Cottage, in the village of Lower Broadheath, 3 miles west of Worcester. He was the fourth of seven children and the only one to be born in Broadheath.

The Visitor Centre

The Elgar Centre was opened in August 2000 following a fundraising campaign and support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. For years visitors had crowded into the small 19th century Birthplace Cottage to view to fascinating collection of objects it holds.
